Obituary for Myron Lewis Dannar

Myron Lewis Dannar
Myron Lewis Dannar, 90, passed away Sunday, July, 16th, 2017. Myron was born to Alta and Lewis Dannar in Wichita, Kansas, on February 5, 1927.

Myron attended East High and was a member of the class of 1945, but he graduated mid-year in December 1944, so he could enter the Navy and World War II. Unfortunately, Myron contracted rheumatic fever and had to be released from service early.

Upon discharge, Myron entered the University of Arizona at Tucson for a semester before returning to Wichita University. While attending WU, Myron joined Phi Upsilon Sigma and remained devoted to the fraternity throughout his lifetime. Myron graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting in 1949. He then attended graduate school at Denver University where he studied marketing.

Myron was active in the insurance business as an independent fire and casualty agent for fifty years and owned his own company, Dannar Insurance Services, Inc., for the last twenty six years. Myron was an active member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Wichita and served as president for one term during the early years of his career.
After his retirement, Myron missed all the colleagues, customers and friends he had made throughout his years in business.

In addition to his career, Myron was an active volunteer. He was elected to the Andover School Board in 1973 and served one term. Myron shared his experience and insight in running his own business through his participation in SCORE, Service Corps of Retired Executives, a U.S. Small Business Administration program geared toward supporting new or prospective business owners. He served several years as a member and then later as secretary on the board.

Myron survived a stroke in 1974 and for many years after counseled other stroke survivors through a mentoring program administered by the American Heart Association. Myron was also an active church member serving on the vestry and as an usher at St. Stephens and St. James Episcopal Churches and later as an usher at Hillside Christian Church.

When he wasn’t working or volunteering, Myron enjoyed fishing, waterskiing, and playing tennis. Myron was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Evelyn (Don) Miltner. Myron is survived by his three children: Mark (Elaine) Dannar, Laura Hill, and Leah (Ron Garcia) Dannar-Garcia; four grandchildren: Jacob (Ileana) Hill, Bryan Dannar, Michelle (Brian) Quiason, and Alex (Katy) Dannar, and two great grandchildren Alexis and Oliver.

Visitation will be held at Old Mission Mortuary Wednesday, July 19th, from 12:30pm to 4:00pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 2:30pm Hillside Christian Church 8330 E. Douglas Wichita, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hillside Christian Church.
